Alumni Summer Counselor Program

A new way for Alumni to be involved in Summer Camp!

Published Friday, December 6, 2019

YMCA Storer Camps is pleased to announce the launch of the "Alumni Summer Counselor Program" this upcoming Summer 2020.  The one-week program is designed for those Storer Alumni who love being at camp but can't commit to working a full summer.

"Our alumni are always looking for ways to not only come back to Storer but to also be involved," said Derek Bycraft, Alumni Director.  "This new program will be a way to accomplish both of those things at one time."

The program will run each week throughout July and allow alumni to be a counselor for a week.  Those who partake in the program will work with one of our Youth Camp villages (Ranger, Pioneer or Explorer) and be partnered with at least one full-time Summer Camp Counselor.  Though only for a week, participants will be full-fledged counselors, staying overnight in the cabin with their campers, singing songs throughout camp and leading activities.

"It's great for our current campers to learn from a variety of experiences at camp," said Jesse Wells, Summer Camps Director.  "Hearing how long Storer Camps has been positively impacting lives is eye-opening for our young campers and staff."

While this will be an extremely fun program for our alumni, this program is ultimately a job.  Potential participants will undergo all aspects of employment including a job interview and training.  Much of the training will revolve around current-day operations at YMCA Storer Camps in 2020 including new policies and traditions that alumni may be unfamiliar with.  However, alumni are strongly encouraged to come prepared to teach their own traditions to the next generation of Storer Alumni.

The one-week sessions run from Sunday to Friday each week in July starting Sunday the 5th and ending the week of July 26th.  Limited space is available for each week, though space may open depending on camper registrations.
